Orientation

We spent the rest of the day getting acclimated to Assisi with an orientation that included the gift of a book which will serve as a companion piece for our pilgrimage. It contains prayers, texts and historical notes on the various places we will see.
We also got the brief tour of Assisi at sunset, including the magnificent view from the rooftop garden where we are staying. The history of the place emanates from every brick; churches and cathedrals built in the 1100's, stone walkways, narrow streets penned in by high-walled buildings, beautifully lit alleyways and open air plazas.
John and I sat for an hour or so tonight sampling the gelato (me) and pizza (John) just watching the goings on in the town center.

Tomorrow morning, the real journey begins with a morning prayer in the rooftop garden and an in depth walking tour of Assisi leading down to San Damiano.
